The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) have introduced blockchain technology to the tuna industry to stamp out illegal fishing. It is hoped that blockchain technology will enable consumers to be able to track where and when the fish was caught, the vessel and the fishing method.

The process would be for consumers to scan a QR code with their phone that will provide information about the tuna. It is hoped consumers will gravitate to more sustainably harvested tuna with the blockchain technology providing the “single version of the truth”.
From the moment the fish comes aboard the vessel the blockchain technology captures their journey in a digital manner and allows every person through the supply chain to see the story of that fish.
